The EuPRAXIA Preparatory Phase (EuPRAXIA-PP) project held its 2024 Annual Meeting at the Hermitage Hotel on the island of Elba, Italy, from Monday 23 to Friday 27 September 2024.
One hundred participants attended the meeting, which focused on presenting and discussing the activities and recent results of the different EuPRAXIA_PP Work Packages, as well as exploring future upgrades to the EuPRAXIA@SPARC_LAB facility and the EuPRAXIA Outreach program.
The first three days of the workshop featured presentations and discussions on the activities and recent results of the different EuPRAXIA-PP Work Packages. At the opening of every morning session, a series of invited talks were given by guest scientists Luca Serafini (INFN and Università degli Studi di Milano), Jens Osterhoff (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory), and James Rosenzweig (UCLA).
Two special one-day satellite workshops were held on Thursday 26 and Friday 27. The satellite workshop on “EuPRAXIA@SPARC_LAB machine upgrade and additional beam lines” aimed to gather input from the Advanced Accelerator Community and their Users to propose future updates and integrations of the facility. The satellite workshop “EuPRAXIA Outreach” aimed to bring together several communities to discuss the relevance of the EuPRAXIA design for their field and provide additional input to enlarge the scope of the facility.
The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for lively technical and scientific discussions about the EuPRAXIA project, including related topics such as collaboration with industry, sustainability, diversity, legal and financial aspects. The beautiful natural environment of Elba provided a unique setting for the workshop.
Antonio Falone, head of the EuPRAXIA Project office at INFN says, "The annual meeting offered a valuable opportunity for comprehensive discussions with the entire collaboration on the progress of the EuPRAXIA initiative. The inspiring location of Elba Island facilitated exchanges on emerging ideas, trends, and proposals. The discussions among work package leaders and the two parallel workshops have infused new energy into the collaboration and we all are certainly looking forward to the second half of the preparatory phase.”
